    Hey guys,

I figure I might as well reach out here to see if anyone had any tips regarding some texturing I’m trying todo.

A few years ago I worked on a project with a ton of balloons and I remember simply being able to adjust the Transluscensy/Backlighting slider. I noticed that Redshift doesn’t have this slider anymore and I’m told to adjust the sub-surface settings but it just doesn’t seem to look the same as it did before with the backlighting slider.

Can anyone give me any tips on achieving a semi-transparent red balloon texture? It should be somewhat glossy (reference: the red balloon that is used in the movie IT).

I know it’s a simple question but I know exactly what I’m looking for and something quiet isn’t hitting the spot so I’m hoping someone can give me some tips. Maybe I’m overlooking something.

    Thanks guys,

    Bob

Hi Bob, the BACK-LIGHTING/TRANSLUCENCY setting is in the old RS Material which you can still use in the latest versions of Redshift if you want to do it that way – The new Standard Material is usually a better option for most things but I still use the old shader pretty often for this sort of thing.

I might do a tutorial on creating a realistic balloon material complete with varied translucency, fingerprints etc
