This tutorial was requested by Nathan, who wanted to know how to make a cloth sim with tassels.
Inspired by the incredible work of @johanneskammerer - see his work here.
I ended up building a little tool into the new CG Shortcuts Toolkit plugin called ClothGen that helps with the cloth and tassel modeling and also with the final thickness and UVs of the cloth - the plugin is free with Monthly, Yearly and Lifetime membership.
📁 Project File Notes
Before you dive in, a few quick things to know about the project files:
ClothGen Plugin: The active setup requires the CG Shortcuts Toolkit Plugin, which is free for all Monthly, Yearly, and Lifetime members (Get it here). No plugin? No worries—I’ve included a fallback baked polygon mesh in the scene so you can still use it.
Textures Not Included: Due to licensing restrictions, some of the texture maps aren’t included. I used the Designcraft 3 collection from Arroway Textures, which I highly recommend for high-quality cloth materials (Check it out here). You can easily swap in your own PBR fabrics.
No Alembic Files: I left the .abc Alembic cache files out of the download because they are absolutely massive. You can easily generate and cache them on your end following the steps in the tutorial!
This Tutorial includes bonus members content that will be unlocked with Monthly membership or by individual purchase.
