Connect in Cinema 4D is a generator that combines multiple objects into a single object while keeping their individual geometry intact. It’s perfect for grouping and managing multiple elements as one without merging their polygons.

What It Is

  • The Connect object groups several child objects into one editable object.
  • Maintains separate geometry for each child, allowing for individual edits.
  • Can optionally weld points where objects intersect for seamless geometry.
  • Non-destructive, so children can be modified independently.

How It Works

  1. Create multiple objects that you want to combine.
  2. Add a Connect object from the Generators menu.
  3. Make your objects children of the Connect object.
  4. Enable "Weld" in the Connect object's settings if you want to merge overlapping points.
  5. Adjust weld tolerance to control how close points need to be to weld.
  6. Edit child objects individually; changes update automatically in the Connect object.

Use Cases

  • Grouping multiple models for easier scene management.
  • Creating complex assemblies without permanently merging geometry.
  • Preparing objects for Boolean or other procedural operations.
  • Welding points for clean topology when objects intersect.

Benefits

  • Non-destructive way to combine multiple objects.
  • Maintains editability of individual child objects.
  • Improves scene organization and workflow.
  • Optional welding cleans up intersections for seamless models.
